A Shepherd Independent School District student died Wednesday after going into cardiac arrest.
District officials announced that a Shepherd High School student had a sudden cardiac episode and died during an open gym practice. They did not identify the name or grade of the student.
First responders tried to save the student, but were not successful, according to a statement.
“Our entire school community is deeply saddened by this loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” Shepherd ISD said in a statement posted on Facebook. “We extend our deepest sympathy and offer our support in any way we can.”
District officials said they are offering extra counselors and support staff at the high school this week.
“We know that this news may be difficult to process, and we are here to support each other as we navigate through this tragedy.” The district said in the statement. “Let us come together as a community to lean on one another, offer comfort, and honor the memory of our beloved student.”
