1 in 300 youth has an undetected heart condition that puts them at risk for Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). But well-child exams and sports physicals don't check for those conditions. In fact, studies show the standard approach to these routine exams miss up to 90% of those at risk. While anyone can ask their medical practitioner for diagnostic testing as part of a comprehensive cardiac risk assessment, there is also a national movement to make this a standard part of youth health care—in large part started by parents whose child was stricken or lost to SCA.
