Elmore County, AL – A seventh-grade male student at Redland Middle School collapsed this afternoon shortly after finishing a basketball game. Witnesses say that the student, whose identity has not been released, completed the game and sat down on the bleachers before suddenly losing consciousness.
Witness reported he was sitting down, then just collapsed. It was really sudden.
The school’s nurse and coach were quick to respond, attempting to revive the student while paramedics were summoned to the scene. Despite their efforts, the student remained unresponsive and was airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham for further medical treatment.
Elmore County Superintendent Richard Dennis shared his concern over the incident, urging the community to offer support. “Pray for this family and this child. This is a very serious situation,” Dennis said in a brief statement.
At this time, no additional details regarding the student’s condition have been provided, and the school district has requested privacy for the student’s family during this difficult time.
Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
