LEBANON, Mo. (KY3) – A student in the Lebanon School District has died after running a race.

According to the Lebanon R-3 School District, Lebanon High School senior Rudy “Junior” Zevallos died over the weekend.

According to the Frog Hill Half Marathon and 10K and Leapfrog 5k, Zevallos collapsed at the finish line of the race Saturday afternoon. He was taken to a hospital, where he later passed away.

“This is a very difficult time for our school community, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss. We care deeply for our entire school community and mourn together when we experience loss,” the district said.

The district says counselors and support for staff and students were made available over the weekend and will continue as needed during the school week.
