RADNOR, PA — A local high school is mourning the loss of one of its students after his untimely death over the weekend.
John Dawson McCullough, 17, of Philadelphia, died Saturday after suffering an “unexpected cardiac event,” according to his obituary.
McCullough was a junior at Archbishop John Carroll High School in Radnor.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the McCullough family during this time, and we ask all of the Carroll community to do the same,” the school said in a social media post Monday. “As a school, we remember John as a dear friend, beloved teammate and hard working student and athlete, and we will cherish the many memories we have.”
McCullough is survived by his parents, Shawn and Nina McCullough; sister, Sophia McCullough; grandparents, Suzann and Ronald Newmaster, and Susan and William Durphy; and many more family members, his obituary states.
His funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 819 Cathedral Road in Philadelphia. Interment will take place in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham.
In lieu of flowers, the McCullough asks memorial contributions be made in his name to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, the Christy McCall Arts Scholarship, or the Glenside Gaelic Club.
