A young boy in Dauphin County died Thursday after suffering a heart attack, according to a family friend who started an online fundraiser.
Bryson Funk, 10, of the Lower Paxton area, was known as a vibrant and active athlete. The day before he died, on Wednesday, he pitched three innings in his baseball team’s championship win, striking out the final batter of the game.
The photo with this story is the last photo his parents took of him. His family and teammates were devastated by his unexpected death.
The fundraiser is intended to help the family pay for funeral and other unexpected expenses. No additional details about his death or any medical conditions were available.
The Linglestown Baseball Association posted Friday on their Facebook page commemorating Bryson.
“Yesterday, our baseball family lost a shining light far too soon. Bryson Funk, a vibrant and talented All-Star, passed away suddenly, leaving our community in deep sorrow. He brought energy, kindness, and a true love for the game to every field he stepped on,” the post said.
“Bryson wasn’t just an incredible athlete — he was a teammate, a friend, and a joy to coach. His hustle and his heart will be remembered by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
“Our thoughts are with his family, teammates, and friends during this incredibly difficult time. As a league, we are united in grief and love,” the post continued.
Bryson enjoyed activities with friends, including wiffle ball, kickball, landscaping, and visiting Hersheypark. He also was on a competitive cheer team.
As of Friday evening, more than $23,000 goal had been raised for Bryson’s funeral and memorial services.
“Any contribution, no matter how small, is deeply appreciated. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this with others who may be able to help. Most importantly, we ask for your prayers and thoughts for our family,” the fundraiser said.
