Nick was 25 years old when he passed away in his sleep.  He was a cross country and track athlete in high school and ran in college. He received annual sports physicals, but his heart was never evaluated for potential cardiac issues. The cause of death was an enlarged heart.

Nick was also an ultramarathoner, marathoner, and Ironman triathlete.
