Spencer and other organizers advocated for AED access at the “Anyone Can Help Awareness fair” Thursday evening in Hollidaysburg
“It’s the reason I’m here. I went into cardiac arrest. An AED is the reason I’m here because it shocked my heart back into rhythm. So it’s definitely a need for all schools and companies to have one.” says Davis.
People who know Spencer say they are grateful that people who were trained for CPR were there when Davis had a medical emergency.
“The fact that we had such a quick response is the reason we are here 8 weeks later, and Spencer is thriving and doing well.” says Spencer’s mom, Jennifer Davis.
I think an AED is a vital piece of equipment in sports overall. I think a lot of people now realize the importance of it here in Hollidaysburg.” School resources, Hollidaysburg area school district, Rodney Chism says.
A ceremony was held and hosted by creators of the AED that saved Spencer‘s life.
Spencer Davis also launched ‘The Spencer Davis Foundation,’ which aims to increase aed access in public places across the commonwealth.
“Within tragedy, you want to turn it into a positive. We thought this is a great opportunity to educate the community. Teach the importance of CPR.” UPMC cardiac nurse practitioner, Kristi Montrella says.
“Just like with Spencer, it took bystanders to help, because when you’re doing CPR and using an AED, it’s very difficult to be by yourself.” says Athletic trainer, Amy Smearman.
A well known NFL player who also suffered a similar situation involving cardiac arrest in January 2023, Damar Hamlin, also sent a message of support to Spencer and his family.
Awards were also presented to those who helped save Davis, as well as a donation of new AEDs to organizations of Spencer’s choice.
