EDISON, NJ – A football player from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Edison collapsed on the field during a game over the weekend. The student has now returned home and is recovering, the school said.
During Friday’s game with Elizabeth High School, Chase Young, experienced a medical situation and collapsed. He was immediately taken to the hospital.
Young underwent a series of tests which were normal. He was then released to rest at home.
His father, Chris Young, who also is a coach, told the school officials that his son had no head, neck, or spinal injuries, and had been medically cleared by doctors.
“STA would like to thank our community members, including the athletes, marching band members, cheerleaders, and all spectators in attendance, for their prayers and concern during this time,” the school posted on Facebook.
“STA also extends its heartfelt thanks to the Elizabeth High School staff, fans, and rescue team for their prompt, compassionate, and outstanding response.”
Counselors will be available on Monday to support students as needed.
“Chase is back at home, and we look forward to his full recovery and return to school,” the school said. “Please continue to support Chase and his family with your prayers.”
