A fast-acting staff nurse at the Northvale Public School used a defibrillator to revive a 14-year-old boy who collapsed during a basketball game, authorities said.
The boy went into cardiac arrest around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 20th) during a game against Demarest, responders said.
School nurse Joan Connell Bohan “began lifesaving measures utilizing an AED,” Northvale Police Chief Howard Ostrow said.
“The child was conscious and alert upon police arrival” at the school on Tappan Road, the chief said.
Responders said Bohan administered one shock that brought the boy around.
Closter BLS and paramedics from Hackensack University Medical Center arrived and tended to the youngster, who was taken to HUMC for an evaluation.
