“I’m thankful that I had the training and knew what to do in that situation,” said assistant Saylor Township fire Chief Rob Zeis.

It’s a story of being in the right place at the right time for Rob Zeis, the assistant fire chief for the Saylor Township FD.Back in August, he was attending a volleyball game of his daughter’s when her teammate, Abbie Estrada, collapsed.

Those moments he, Sam Kluesener and Aleah Ferguson spent trying to resuscitate her were crucial before medics arrived.

“I’m thankful that I had the training and knew what to do in that situation,” Zeis said.

It’ll be a long road to recovery for Abbie, she’s been able to make some progress like regaining her ability to talk.

Her mother says Long QT Syndrome caused her to faint, the condition causes the heart to beat chaotically and fast.

Her teammates still have that day fresh on their minds and they say her absence from the court is felt.

“I’ve known her since kindergarten. And we’ve been best friends since, like third grade, we’ve always played not always on the same team but games together and I feel empty without her here,” said Celsey Carter, Abbie’s teammate.

She’s now getting treatment at ChildServe for the brain injury she sustained in her incident.

At a tournament her team played in on Thursday, their coach could be seen wearing an Abbie Strong shirt.

Her teammates sported purple ties on their shoes, Abbie’s favorite color.

All by knowing CPR, Abbie gets another chance at life.

Zeis encourages all to learn the skill, you never know who you could help.

“It’s only four hours out of anyone’s day to learn CPR. And I would strongly recommend that people take advantage and take a class near them and learn how to do CPR. You never know when you’re going to need it and you definitely will save somebodies life,” Zeis said.

If you would like to help Abbie, you can do so here.
