The Hartland Fire Department is praising “heroes at Arrowhead” High School for their quick action in saving a student who had a medical emergency and collapsed at the Friday night boys’ basketball game.

“HEROES AT ARROWHEAD,” a Facebook post from the Hartland, Wisconsin, Fire Department read on February 18, 2023.

“HFD salutes the trained staff in their swift, decisive action last night,” the Fire Department’s statement reads.

“HFD’s ambulance arrived less than two minutes after being dispatched, but it was early access to an AED that made the difference. AHS’s medical staff did a fantastic job!!!”

 

According to the Waukesha Freeman, the student collapsed during Hartland Arrowhead’s game against Catholic Memorial the Warhawks’ boys basketball game against Catholic Memorial.

The Freeman says that Arrowhead game manager Jeff Staus and “onsite medical personnel” rushed to help the student with a defibrillator device. The student was taken to the hospital “alert and coherent,” The Freeman reported.

“The great thing is that the kid is OK,” Staus told the Freeman, mentioning NFL player Damar Hamlin’s medical emergency.

In a statement sent to to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Arrowhead School District superintendent Laura Myrah confirmed that the student collapsed while sitting in the bleachers during the game and was “provided medical assistance at the scene and was transported to the hospital.”

“We hope this young man is doing well now, as well as all those who witnessed the frightening event,” Myrah said to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The exact nature of the student’s medical emergency was not disclosed.

Arrowhead High School is located in Hartland, Wisconsin.
